Mrs. Barbara Oteng – Gyasi the Member of Parliament for the Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency has organized a two-day health screening exercise for 700 constituents. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Rebecca health outreach Programme, under the Rebecca Foundation with a team comprising of medical doctors, laboratory, technicians, physician assistants, dentists and nurses drawn from the University Of Ghana Medical School.
The screening exercise sought to provide safe and proper healthcare services to the aged and other vulnerable groups with much focus on women and children in these remote communities to improve on their health and bring joy to them.
Residents from Aboso Bremang, Obengkrom, Besikrom and Yawkrom who benefited from the exercise were diagnosed and treated for blood pressure, hypertension, blood sugar level, diabetes, hepatitis B and malaria among others. Drugs were given to beneficiaries to aid the treatment of various ailments diagnosed; food was also given to them.
The Municipal Chief Executive of the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality Mr. Mozart K. Owuh who graced the occasion disclosed that the medical outreach initiative of the MP has already covered 16 communities with over 1200 people in the constituency being treated. He added that other communities would be visited later.
Again he emphasized that Mrs. Oteng-Gyasi was committed to finding solutions to the challenges facing the health sector in the constituency and she is hopeful the periodic screening exercise would go a long way to improve and ensure healthy lives and promote the well-being for all constituents to actualize the Sustainable Development Goals.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the MP for the gesture.
