On Friday 3rd December 2021 Prestea Huni valley Municipal Assembly held its 37th celebration of national farmers day at R/C school park, Damang. The theme for this year farmers day celebration was “planting for food and jobs – consolidating food systems in Ghana”
Addressing the gathering Municipal Agricultural director Mr Albert Boney stated that farming has been the main source of job creation for the youth in the municipality so he entreated the teaming youth to consider farming and venture into it, he also appeal to the chiefs and landowners to make land available to farmers especially the youth, who would like to go into farming he also assured that the department will support the farmers with technical staff to intensify their services for agric development in the municipality. The department through the assembly was able to train the farmers on the proper use of agrochemicals, fertilizer application, control of fall armyworm etc. anti-rabies campaign was organized to vaccinate 800 dogs and cats against rabies, there was a regular inspection at the slaughterhouses in the municipality to ensure wholesome meat consumption. The department was able to train livestock farmers on the importance of improved housing breeding and good biosecurity, in collaboration with an NGO they sensitized 1,350 oil palm farmers and processors in 14 communities on best management, food safety and hygienic practices, he also encouraged those who want to engage in rice farming either to produce or to consume to register next year with the department for subsidized input for production,
Speaking to the media, Hon. Isaac Dasmani (PhD) stated that he was very glad to the sponsors who sponsored this year farmers day celebration, this year farmers Prestea Huni Valley Municipal Assembly will be the first assembly to give females the best farmer with a car. He also said he was very glad about the rate the youth are engaging themselves in agric, in this year 37th farmers day was an award for the best youth in agric. A philanthropist out of his own will gift the best female farmer with the ‘Abosokai macho’ Chevrolet car first of its kind in the municipality, there will be engagement between the youth and cooperatives farmers on how to support them. In April or May, there will be an “agric fan fair” for the farmers to help add value to their product this will also help create employment he gave thanks to a former member of parliament Hon. Barbara Oteng Gyasi (board chairperson of mineral commission) and Wassa Hemaa foundation for supporting the best female farmer with Chevrolet car.
2021 best municipal farmer speaking to the media said that he was very grateful to the almighty God and Hon. Dr Isaac Dasmani, for he to be honoured as the best farmer for this year farmers day, he also entreats the youth to engage themselves in farming to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country and municipality as a whole and help bring the youth entrepreneurship as visioned by the central government. He also said that he will put the product he received to improve his farming method to win the regional best farmer in the coming years.
In all three one Chevrolet (Abosoakine Matcho), three tricycles, refrigerators, Television set, Wellington boots, fertilizers, Knapsack sprayers, cutlass, insecticides, weedicide, watering can, was print, mist blowers among others.
