On the 10th of November, 2021, Prestea Government Hospital held an open day ceremony which was to inform the stakeholders of the hospital, their assets, challenges facing them, and the services they offer. Present at the open forum were the Municipal Chief Executive for Prestea Huni Valley Municipal Assembly, Hon Isaac Dasmani (PhD), Nana Nteboah Prah (IV) the divisional chief for Himan-Prestea Traditional council, Doctors, the general public and staff of the hospital. They took the opportunity to offer free health screening to those present.
Speaking to the audience, the Municipal Chief Executive of Prestea Huni Valley Municipal Assembly, Hon. Isaac Dasmani (PhD) stated that when you look at our health system there are problems in the health delivery in the municipal. He also added that by the close of this year there will be two new additional Community-Based Health and Planning Services (CHPS) compounds added to the existing ones within the municipality. On accommodation, he said that they were working together to get a befitting accommodation for the Senior Doctors. He added that due to the nature and scope of land at the hospital, no expansion work can be carried out. He however promised that with the help of the chiefs present they will secure a better place for expansion work. He assure that when new land is acquired proper documentation would be put in place to avoid encroachment.
Addressing, the audience, Emmanuel Darko (MD) talked about the successes the hospital has chalked, their challenges and the services they offer. He said the facility has a trained herbal doctor who will give special attention to patients who are interested in herbal medicine. He urged patients to always seek medical advice and desist from self-medication. He thanked all those who have one way or the other helped the hospital. He also appealed to individuals and corporate organizations to help support the hospital with their widow’s mite. He allowed individuals present to ask questions.
Nana Nteboah Prah (IV) the Divisional Chief for Himan-Prestea Traditional Council addressing the issue said the traditional council would have to find ways to get development partners from outside Ghana for funds to run a proper hospital bigger than the ones they have currently. Nana mentioned that if the Municipal is looking for land to expand the hospital, the traditional council in Himan will offer a place to expand the hospital and if possible, add a nursing training college. He pleaded with the Municipal Chief Executive to consider some CHPS compounds in Prestea most especially the one at Krutown and Anfegya and Mankesim to help reduce the pressure on the main hospital. Nana Nteboah pleaded with the hospital management to purchase a bus for the staff to reduce the rate at which the staff have to trek from home to the hospital. He ended by urging individuals who comes to the hospital to keep the surrounding clean.
