The people of Appiatse in the Prestea Huni-valley Municipality got into darkness exactly one year today, sad story and an unfortunate situation, a year after this massive explosion that devastated the Appiatse community and crumbled down all their buildings, took the lives of some residents, and strangers and living some with severe injuries, there was therefore, the need to commemorate this event to share experience, pray and advice the citizenry to help prevent any feature occurrences of such disaster.
Hon. Isaac Dasmani (PhD) the Municipal Chief Executive first began his speech by giving a flashback of what happened during the day of the accident, the sum number of victims which was four hundred and
ninety-six, and those with injuries as of now stands at twenty of which two others are severely injured. Hon. again urged the people to give out their support and not apportion. He acknowledged some organizations who supported the victims, among these include the Red Cross association, The mineral commissions, Ghana Gas, UNICEF, the UN embassy, some churches, Goldfields, and many other groups and individuals. Hon. finally ended His speech by seeking flop for scholarships to tertiary students in the
community so they become helpful in society.
Hon. Robbery Wisdom Codjo, the member of parliament for Prestea Huni -Valley Constituency, on his part said, we would have been happy if this ground durbar is meant for a celebration of achievement rather than this sad story, this was a disaster that took away some lives of our brothers and sisters, destroyed a lot of properties and left others with massive injuries, my condolences to the gone souls and speedy recovery to those who are still undergoing treatment. I will say this should serve as an experience to stay alert and be careful whenever we hear a sarine of an explosive van to help prevent any feature occurrences, I will also urge everyone to continue with their support till we bring our brothers and sisters back to active life and their normal homes, I pray that God will give us a sign that can mark the end to a disaster of such nature.
Nana Nteboah IV the divisional chief of the Himan Prestea divisional area gave a brief explanation of what happened during the incident. Nana again talked about the benefits of using mobile phones and their disadvantages, and He finally argued with the security agencies to give more education to the citizens both formal and informal education on safety.
Stakeholders in disaster prevention and management such as the Police, National Ambulance, Fire Service, and Red Cross were called to sensitize, educate and share advice on the prevention of this kind of artificial.
