The Prestea- Huni Valley Municipal Assembly in Collaboration with Prestea- Huni Valley Municipal Education Directorate celebrated the 66th Independence Day Anniversary which took place at Bogoso St. Augustine’s senior high school park on Monday 6th March, 2023 under the theme ‘’ Our Unity, Our Strength, our Purpose’’.
The occasion was Graced by the present of the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Isaac Dasmani PhD, the member of parliament Hon. Robert Wisdom Codjo, the municipal coordinating director Mr. Emmanuel Gyan, the municipal GES director Mr. sebastine Atrama Diaw, Nananom, the police commander and his team, the various hard of departments in the municipality, teachers, and some staff of the Municipal Assembly.
As part of the activities of the occasion, there was a march past display by the Army Cadet Corps, they also led the people to recite the patriotic Anthem ( Yen Ara Asaseni) and the National pledge followed by an inspection of contingents which was led by the parade Commander together with the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Dasmani (PhD), the municipal police commander,the municipal coordinating director and municipal education director also inspected the schools.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Dasmani (PhD) gave a speech for the Anniversary, In his speech, Hon. Addressed the dignitaries present and appreciated everyone for their turn- ups, he again expressed his joy for the hope of the future of the country.
Hon. again gave a brief history of Ghana’s Independence Day which was led by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, J. B Dankwa and other members of the big six and the efforts of the three ex- officials namely Sargent Adjeitey, Corporal Attipoe and Lance Corporal Odartey Lamptey who died on 28 February, 1948 through the Riot. He stands on behalf of the President to expressed his gratitude to Nananom and all good people presented. He spoke about the purpose of independence to the country which he said it gives the country a privilege to plan their lives, shape our destiny and plan our political lives.It also help in deepening our respect and love for the nation.He talks about theme for the anniversary. And again talked about the various projects that the municipality has achieved by the help of the president. He finally thanked everyone for their presents and added that the municipality has a lot to achieve , so he therefore pleaded on everyone to corporate.
The occasion continued with the match past by the selected schools which consist of twelve-six primary schools, seventeen Junior, high schools one SHS and presentation of Awards to best WASSCE students and best six schools from both primary and junior high that participated in the March past. From the primary side Emmanet school merged the first position, followed by St. Michael primary and third position to Royal Academy primary and from the Junior high side, St. Michael merged the first position,
second position to Golden star school and third position to Royal Academy.
Student who performed very well in last year’s WASSCE and BECE were awarded together with others categories which was sponsored by the Municipal Assembly, the member of parliament and intertek. The following are some of the awardees, Papa Kwaw Bempeh Junior – Overall Best Male WASSCE student – 2022 (St. Augustine’s SHS), Sarah Dawson Amoah – Overall Best Female Student – 2022 (Prestea SHTS), Floesia Delvina Archer – Overall Best BECE Student – 2022 (Nana Amoakwa Model School now at Wesley Girls SHS), Velerie Akushika Ofori – Overall Best Student in 2022 National Inter-Mine First Aid Essay Competition Alfkids International school.
The ceremony ended successfully with an announcement from the MC and a closing prayer by Imam
Ali.
