THE PRESTEA HUNI-VALLEY MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY’S SECOND ORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETINNG HELD ON TUESDAY, 31 ST OCTOBER AND WEDNESDAY 1 ST NOVEMBER, 2023 AT THE MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HALL.

The Local Government Act 2016 (Act 936) imposes a statutory responsibility on all MMDAs to organize General Assembly Meetings with its stakeholders and account on the Direction and activities of the Assembly Every Quarter, in accomplishment of this, the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly organizes it Second Ordinary General Assembly Meeting on Tuesday, 31st October and 1st November, 2023 at the Municipal Assembly Hall.

In attendance were, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Isaac Dasmani (PhD), the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) Mr. Emmanuel Gyan, the Presiding Member Hon. Francis Asmah, Hon. Assembly Members, Departmental Heads, Heads of various Agencies in the municipality, media houses and other invited Guest.

In an open forum led by the Presiding Member, the Assembly Members
were given the opportunity to exercise their legal right in accordance with the Local Government Act 2016 (Act 936) to express their views on the issues and problems in their Municipality and question the Head of Department and Agencies to explain to them about their activities in certain areas and how they can help to solve problems of concerned.

As the law requires, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Isaac Dasmani present to the House on the progress of developmental projects/programmes and major activities that have been pursued by the Assembly during the year, 2023. He highlighted on some key issues which includes, Security, Education, Health, Water and Sanitation, Road infrastructure, Agriculture among others which requires attention and some instance endorsement, and Report from sub-committees which was separately discussed in the Executive Committee’s Report.

On security, he applauds the members of the MUSEC and all security agencies in the municipality for the good work. Concerning the illegal
gold mines (galamsey), the government together with the assembly has
not been able to wipe out the activities of the illegal gold mining completely. He made emphasis on the government’s commitment on making security issues a priority with a manifestation of retool and re-equipped the security agencies with the needed resources.

Health, he stated that the assembly has consistently provided financial and material support for health care delivery and its related activities. Some activities that have been provided in the municipality include, construction of Samahu health center, renovation of Aboso maternity block, renovation of Huni-Valley health center with staff accommodation, construction of CHPS compound at Yawkrom, posting of midwives to pieso CHPS (first time ever), Broni-Nkwanta CHPS, and Asikuma CHPS to help maternal and child health, Measles Immunization catchup which covered over 2,500 children under five years among others.

Water and Sanitation, cleanliness is next to Godliness as he stated. However, he specified that sanitation is one of the major challenges of this country and Prestea Huni-Valley is no exception. The evidence of chocked gutters, unclean environment on the streets and other public places in our municipality conforms to this fact. During the period under review, there was disinfection of boreholes in catchment communities and various clean up exercises within the municipality.

Education, the greatest asset every nation can bequeath to its youth is good quality education. A large proportion of the national budget is allocated to the education sector each year for provision of infrastructure and other facilities to improve teaching and learning in our schools. In their contribution towards this, a number of classroom blocks have been expanded to cover more schools across the municipality. The assembly through the Government of Ghana have provided the municipal Education Directorate with the following, 6 NO. Teacher tables and chairs, 6 no. cupboards, 5 NO. dual desks, 36 NO. hexagonal table and chairs and 400 NO. dual desks for onward distribution to some schools in the municipality.

Developmental projects, during the period under review, the assembly
embarked on some developmental projects of which some have been
completed and others are at various stages of completion. Some of the newly awarded projects include; Completion of Community-Based Health and Planning Service (CHPS) compound with furniture and Mechanized Borehole at Yawkrom, (construction of additional floor) completion of 1no. 2 Storey Office Complex for Education, Health and other Departments- phase II at Bogoso, Construction of 1 NO. 3-Unit classroom block with headmaster’s office, staff common room and store room with furniture at Aboso Breman, construction of 1 NO. 2- Unit classroom block with mechanized borehole, staff common room, washroom, store, headmaster’s office at Manhunttem, completion of 1 NO. 3-Unit classroom block with headmasters office, store common room and store room- phase II at Roman Cath.sch.Bogoso, paving works for Aboso New Lorry station at Aboso, paving works for Prestea Lorry Station (Tuobodom) at Prestea, construction of 1 NO. Fire Station at Bogoso, Re-roofing of the science block for Huni valley SHS at Huni-valley, Demolition and Construction of 2 NO. accommodation at Kokoase roundabout to pave way for the creation of access/bypass road at Kokoase, Reshaping and spot improvement on Bogoso-Prestea road phase II at Bogoso-Prestea road, supply of 500 NO. Dual desks and 500 NO. Mono Desks at some selected schools, construction of 1 NO. 3 classroom blocks with ancillary facilities(ground floor phase I)Awodua Nkwanta, construction of ENT Room, consulting rooms, offices as 1st floor and redevelopment of the Ground floor for Prestea government
hospital at Prestea, construction of 1 NO. 2 storey office complexes for
education health and other departments PHASE I at Bogoso, construction of 1 NO. 6 classroom blocks with ancillary facilities at Broni Nkwanta, construction of 1 NO. 3-Unit classroom block, Library, staff common room, headmasters office and storeroom with furniture for RC lower primary at Bogoso at Bogoso, construction of 1 NO. 6-Unit classroom block with offices at Ayensukrom NO.1

Agriculture, during the period under review, the department collaborated with the minerals development fund secretariat and the minerals commission in order to serve farmers who were interested in cultivating oil palm and 46,700 oil palm seedlings have been supplied to farmers in the municipality. Also talked about the new producer price per bag of cocoa on 9th September,2023. The amount increased from twelve thousand, eight hundred cedis(GH₵12,800) per ton, to twenty thousand, nine hundred and forty-three hundred cedis(GH₵20,943) per ton. President of the of the republic of Ghana announced a new producer price per bag of cocoa on 9 th September, 2023 which the highest price within West Africa, there are several policies and support from the central government and the Municipal Assembly to the farmers.

Road infrastructure, during the period under review the following roads had been worked on; the Odumasi to Brumasi police barrier main road, the Bogoso township, the Prestea Krutown to Anyinam main road, the Prestea township, the Aboso township and Tarkwa Breman main road had been reshaped by the assembly including others.

In conclusion, he reaffirmed his commitment to the development and
progress of the municipality and therefore called on all stakeholders to
come out with good plans and programmes to unearth all hidden local
resources and revenue, since it is only through this that we can satisfy our clients with developmental project that they are yearning for.
