The Prestea- Huni Valley Municipal Assembly in Collaboration with Prestea- Huni Valley Municipal Education Directorate celebrated the 67th Independence Day Anniversary which took place at Bogoso St. Augustine’s senior high school park on Wednesday 6th March, 2024 under the theme “Our Democracy, Our Pride”.
The occasion was Graced by the present of the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Isaac Dasmani PhD, the member of parliament Hon. Robert Wisdom Codjo, the municipal coordinating director Mr. Emmanuel Gyan, the municipal GES director Mr. sebastine Atrama Diaw, Nananom, the police commander DSP Williams Ainuson and his team, the various head of departments in the municipality, Head of schools, teachers, and some staff of the Municipal Assembly.
As part of the activities of the occasion, there was a match past display by the Army Cadet Corps, they also led the people to recite the patriotic Anthem (Yen Ara Asaseni) and the National pledge followed by an inspection of contingents which was led by the parade Commander together with the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Dasmani (PhD), the municipal police commander, the municipal coordinating director and municipal education director also inspected the schools.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Dasmani (PhD) gave a speech for the Anniversary, in his submission, Hon. Addressed the dignitaries present and appreciated everyone for making themselves available for the occasion despite their busy schedules. He also expressed his joy for what the future holds.
Hon expressed his gratitude to our first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and many others who contributed to the fight for independence that became a reality on the eve of 6th March 1957. The past thirty -two (32) years of the Fourth Republic have witnessed the most sustained period of stability and economic growth in our country, and we should be proud of what we have achieved, hence the theme for this year’s Independence Anniversary Celebration is “Our Democracy, Our Pride”. The theme was chosen to reflect on the important role of Democracy to both economic and social development of our country.
He thanked the children and the voluntary groups from across the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal in advance, for their excellent march and their magnificent display which has showcase the best of Ghanaian culture and lifestyle.
He further identifies some projects which was made by the government to improve the teaching and learning of STEM education at the pre – tertiary level. Key interventions have included increasing our ability to produce STEM professionals, and also meeting 21st century skills. Construction of ten (10) STEM Schools and ten (10) STEM Centers has commenced across the country, with seven (7) STEM model schools having being operationalized. These schools have been equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and classrooms, dormitories, assembly halls, dining halls and conducive environments to foster teaching and learning. The operationalized school have a total enrolment of two thousand, four hundred (2,400) students reading general science and STEM.
It would interest you to know that STEM education has been extended to basic schools and Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality, was the only District in the entire Western and Western-North Regions to have benefited from the YAMORANSA MODEL LAB 8, thus a Robotics Laboratory here in Bogoso. With the Ultimate Computer Laboratory, our children can step into a realm where innovation knows no boundary and creativity finds its playground he added.
Bringing his speech to an end, he urged everyone to build on this noble and enviable record as we approach the 2024 presidential and parliamentary election. We should not engage in any act either directly or indirectly that will disrupt the peace, progress, unity and stability of the Municipality and the nation as a whole.
The occasion continued with the match past by some selected schools which consist of twenty-four private schools and seven public schools. Twenty-one junior high schools and thirty primary schools. presentation of special awards from the Municipal, Inter Tek-Samahu, former MP Barbara Oteng Gyasi and the member of parliament Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, to best WASSCE students 2023 was Daniel Pascal from Huni-Valley SHS and Helen Daniels also from Huni-Valley SHS. Overall best Science student was also awarded to Helen Daniels. Best BECE student 2022 Ishmael Cobbinah from Prestea Sankofa international school was also awarded. Awards were presented to best six schools. Starting from the primary schools, St James Anglican merged the first position, followed by Remalj Carewell Inspiration school, and third position to St Michael Catholic primary and from the Junior high was, Golden Star who carried the first position, second position to St James Anglican and third position to St Michael Catholic.
