The Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly has commissioned a two-unit kindergarten block with essential facilities on October, 24th 2024 at Obengkrom, a project set to greatly enhance educational access for young children in the area. The commissioning event was attended by key local leaders, including Hon. Isaac Dasmani, PhD, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Prestea Huni-Valley, and Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, Board Chairperson of the Minerals Commission and NPP Parliamentary Candidate
for the Prestea Huni-Valley constituency.
In his speech, Hon. Dasmani expressed his gratitude to former Assembly Member Hon. Oppong, whose advocacy and dedicated support helped drive the project forward. Hon. Dasmani highlighted Oppong’s daily efforts to keep the project on track, which included updating Hon. Barbara Oteng- Gyasi to ensure the initiative remained a priority. He also commended the expertise and support of the current Assembly Member, which was essential in backing the project.
Emphasizing the importance of the new facility, Hon. Dasmani pointed to the challenges that children face in walking long distances to school. The Assembly, he noted, is committed to providing educational facilities conveniently located for students to promote higher attendance and improve early education outcomes. He further underscored the need to maintain the quality of the newly commissioned building to ensure it serves the community for years to come. Hon. Dasmani concluded by commending the efforts of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, noting their
continued dedication to development initiatives. He urged attendees to support Dr. Bawumia and the NPP parliamentary candidate, Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, in the upcoming elections to facilitate further projects that will benefit Obengkrom and the wider municipality.
Also Hon. Barbara Oteng Gyasi highlighted the positive impact of theproject, calling education a top priority for the government. He pointed to the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which has relieved financial burdens on families and provided greater educational opportunities across Ghana. She encouraged further educational investments in Obengkrom and the municipality as a whole to strengthen the foundation of quality education for future generations.
The Chief of Obengkrom also addressed the gathering, thanking the community for their support and attendance. He specifically acknowledged the efforts of Assembly Member Oppong and Hon. Dasmani for their roles in the completion of this essential infrastructure. Additionally, the Chief advocated for the construction of teacher’s bungalows to provide accommodations for educators, ensuring they can serve the community effectively and contribute to sustained quality education. This new kindergarten block represents a significant step forward in addressing educational access in Obengkrom, and its completion has brought renewed optimism for additional community development projects.
