The past boys of Huni – Valley Senior High School (HUNIVASS) who were boarders had been using the classrooms as their boarding house, however, by the help of former Member of Parliament who is the chairperson of the Minerals Commission and the president of Wassa Hemaa foundation, a 250 bed facility and 12-unit class room block has been commissioned and handed over to the school. On 29th August 2022, the Prestea Huni Valley Municipal Assembly and Education directorate was joined by the Western Regional Minister to commission the facility.
Speaking at the gathering the headmaster of Huni – Valley Senior High School Mr. Daniel Kwabena Edu said for about 49 years in which the school came to existence the boys have been using the classroom as their dormitory. The headmaster who was once an old student of HUNIVASS atested to the fact that he once slept in the classroom. He pleaded with the government to supply the school with bus.
Formal Member of Parliament and president of Wassa Hemaa foundation Hon. Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng Gyasi, advised the student to aim high when writing their west Africa Examination Council exams.
The Western Regional Minister Hon. Kobby Okyere Darko Mensah said he was very happy to be back in Huni Valley and promised that in 41 months times the railway lines from Takoradi through Tarkwa to Huni Valley will be fixed. He urged the Municipal Chief Executives to help construct or renovate the bungalow of the headmaster and promised them that they will come back for the Dining Hall and the Assembly hall.
The Municipal Chief Executives of Prestea Huni Valley Municipal Assembly Hon. Dr. Isaac Dasmani said he was very happy for the numerous number of project which is being taking in this municipality under the leadership of Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo.
He talked about the number of projects the Assembly has commissioned and others to be completed, he outlines some project in Petepom (kg block) Damang (Kg) Dwabeng etc. He commended the folks of Prestea Huni Valley for their support and entreated them to continue to support them to do more. He also used the chance to educate the people of Huni Valley Senior High School on “if you see something say something” to get rid of terrorist in the country.
Mr. Sebastian Atrama Diew (Municipal Education Director) talked about how he as old student also slept in the classroom. He expressed his good wish to those who were writing their West African Examination Certificate this year. With the insertion of free SHS now the enrollment of schools in Ghana has increased there by putting pressure on the existing facilities, he added. He pleaded with the Regional Minister to help renovate the Head Master’s bungalow for the headmaster.
Nana Kwabena Amponsah IV thanked the government and formal member of parliament for putting up these for the first time in the history of the school, he also added that due to the increased in the school population the school, there is the need of infrastructural face left and a science lab, ICT lab and home economic lab to help in improving the student abilities and new classroom block to help accommodate the fast growing population. He pleaded with student to focus on their studies.
