INTERNATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY

Prestea huni Valley municipal assembly together with the prestea education directorate celebrated the 10th anniversary of international girl child day on the theme “Our time is now – our right our future on 11th October 2022.

Speaking at the gathering the municipal education director Mr. Sabastian Akyeremadew said, this day is dedicated to girls everywhere who are fighting for their rights and standing up against any inequality, it is also a day to celebrate process and call for further action to help level the field of life. Mr. Dew added that in 10 years there have been issues about girls amongst government, policymakers, and the general public, and more opportunities for girls to have their voices heard on the global stage. Girls in this part of the world are being confronted with countless challenges to fulfill their potential and aspirations, he also added that girls in the world are encountering unprecedented challenges to their education.

According to UNESCO 62million girls of primary school age, 18 million
girls of lower secondary school age, and 27million girls of upper secondary school. He also added by supporting them will help promote girls’ empowerment and to call for gender equality.

Nana Hemaah of Nyaneba (Queen Mother of Danquahkrom).advised the youth to obey their parents and teachers and advise the girls to abstain from sexual immorality and focus on their education and become someone in the future.

Mrs. Comfort Danso Yeboah (who represented the MCE of PHMA) advised them to take their hygiene seriously and advised them to keep away from any activities which will lead them to contract STIs. She also said they should educate their peers who did not have the opportunity to attend the event on what they learned
