The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development of Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Health Insurance Scheme in efforts to seeking good health of Persons with Disability (PWDs) in the municipality, has begun on the registration and renewal of National Health Insurance Scheme policy for persons with disability in the municipality.
In a communication with the beneficiaries, they commended the organizers of such initiative and showed an enthusiasm towards the opportunity given them by the government.
The Municipal Director of Social Welfare, and Community Development, Mrs Rebecca Aidoo, said the exercise was not first of its kind.
She made it clear that, it was the department’s repetitious exercise executed every year as to when members’ cards expired, and new entrants enlisted unto the scheme.
She encouraged members to inform others about such privileges since not all persons with disability were registered in the indigent register.
She urged members to call on the social welfare office to be assisted to renew their cards and cautioned them not to wait until they were sick before they seek medical attention, adding that the renewal of the card must not be effected after complete expiration.
The director said management is still planning to get more of PWDs enrolled into the scheme but until then NHIS secretariat would not be able to be in their homes for the registration due to the set-up of the gadgets.
This exercise is being taken across all the local councils with the Municipality.
A total of Six Hundred and Ninety Seven (697) PWDs has been registered so far.
